Aksharaya Trailers
Not a lot of people have seen Asoka Handagama's movie Aksharaya (A Letter of Fire) and if the Minister of Culture has his way then not many more people are going to see the movie.

If you Google Aksharaya you can fine out enough about the debate surrounding the movie. Personally I think the movie should be screened and the Minister for Culture should go screw himself. We have enough people trying to do moral policing in this country, the last thing we need is for some illiterate Minister who's incapable of stringing two words together trying to decide what we should abnd shouldn't see.

Isn't everyone allowed to not do certain things? You won't walk in Gallface in your undies would you? Maybe you would, who knows, but will a normal person do that? Do you think you have a right to expose what is undesirable to others. I'll take a wild guess, maybe even you wouldn't want to see somethings when you don't want to. Why do we have some limits? When something is as shocking as porn to most people, doesn't goddamn government has to care? Whether or not the minister is as 'smart' as you are is not the issue. Some people just say the magic word "MORAL POLICE" to get rid of something that makes their life difficult, not because they are genuinely interested in making a balanced decision to protect everyone's interests. Your rights don't extend to offending someone. There are always limits. So why should a few crackpots in Colombo blackmail everyone else with this crap? We have all seen bad shit happen but we don't relive those moments unless you are a pervert. It is simple, to treat this movie as enlightened creativity suitable for the mases is just as stunted the idea of you watching a porn with your parents.

If one watches movies like "Beau Pere", "Tin Drum", and "A Ma Soeur", one realizes easily the difference between true art and bad movies. A good director is able to get his message through without hurting the values of people. "Radical" and "incapable are entirely different qualities.

Needless to say that I havent seen this movie, but my comments are based on the trailers, and what both parties say about the movie. Handagama could show his honesty by posting the conversations of the scene with the mother and child in the bathroom, which is one of the scenes challenged by the opposing parties. If that cannot be posted because of Child Porn regulations, I have nothing more to say:-p. If there are other reasons, I would be glad to hear them.

All of Handagama's productions are vomit. I have no idea why he cans his smelly, fungus infested shit and sells it as an artistic masterpiece. And then screams and whines about "freedom of expression" when people point out its vile nature.

His previous Teledrama work, for example Dunhinda addara, like Chandare said, was plain dumb. May be he has grown wiser with time. But I doubt it.

This looks nowhere near a good piece of work by an artist. It does not deserve such high rating and serves no purpose to enlighten the society in any way or point out something intelligent.

Its just a shortcut way to earn some big bucks by producing something on a controversal topic so that ppl will watch out of curiosity and to satisfy their vulgar tastes....

I just went through the trailers and it looks like a movie that has been made by a sex-psychopath who has no morals and is really sick in the head. Probably his mothers father was his father as well :). His totally sick mind and hidden longings are expressed in this movie. He who exposed his wife on film, does not seem to care about child-abuse. The bastards DICK should be chopped off and stung up his ass. Perverts like this should be tried and given the death penalty for the harm they are causing to society. This is not censorship, these type of movies should be banned. For the moral well being of society and out culture. The young boy's parents who sent him for this movie should also be tried for child-abuse.

Dear All,

It’s a movie about humans and what we do and feel, especial that of a mother and a child. I guess our Minister of Culture who banned this movie doesn’t have enough literature in him to get it through his perverted sick skull. The guy is a moron… Therefore, an educated (not perverted) audience is deprived of yet another enlightening experience by Asoka Hadagama.

All these people who are being critical of censorship are those who would only preech but not practice. They do all the unethical and unacceptable things behind their ass. The true value of Asoka Handagama yet to identify by the "kalakannis" of this country. Appreciate his brave efforts. Keep your works alive.

Well, there are only very few people who can feel the "classicalness". [ It is worst in a so called best culture like Sri Lankan who do exactly the opposite of what their religious leaders taught]. Handagama, the great artist is foolish only because of thinking to screening A Letter of Fire in Sri Lanka. Only very few people in SL who kan think and feel differently. There is nothing wrong with the film; the only thing is a terrible society! You guys never go against useless films like "Sikuru Hathe", "Joli Halo", "Weda beri Tazan",etc for wasitng peoples precious time and making them empty. Those who can absorb literature know what kind of a movie Aksharaya is. Although it is bit rude you are extremely correct to say "The true value of Asoka Handagama yet to identify by the kalakannis of this country".
